MP Pam Damoff Appointed Parliamentary Secretary to Minister of Health

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced this afternoon that Pam Damoff, Member of Parliament for Oakville North-Burlington, has been appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Health.

In her new role, MP Damoff will support the Minister of Health in fulfilling her mandate letter, which includes improving access to necessary prescription medications, addressing the devastating opioid crisis, the promotion and defense of the Canada Health Act and giving Canadians the tools for healthy living.

“I am humbled and honoured to have been appointed Parliamentary Secretary to Canada’s Minister of Health,” said MP Damoff.  “Canada has a world-class, internationally envied health care system based on our government’s commitment to ensure all Canadians have equal access to the best health care available.  I look forward to working with the Health Minister to further her mandate, and improve the health of all Canadians.  I have always been a proponent of healthy and active living, and this new role will allow me to continue my work on this important issue,” said MP Damoff. “While I assume this new role, I continue to be fully committed to representing my community of Oakville North-Burlington in Ottawa.”

Since becoming a Member of Parliament in 2015, MP Damoff has served on the House of Commons Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security and as Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on the Status of Women. She is also an Executive Member of the Canadian Group of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the Chair of the Golden Horseshoe Caucus and a member of several other Parliamentary Associations and Inter-Parliamentary Groups.

Parliamentary Secretaries are appointed by the Prime Minister to assist Cabinet ministers with their parliamentary functions. Under the direction of their Ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries handle routine matters in the House of Commons, work with caucus members to advance priorities related to their portfolio, engage in committee work and assume some extra-parliamentary responsibilities.
